Different attitudes between male and female students influence different learning achievement. Negative attitude disturbs students’ foreign language acquirement. This difference might be caused by lecturers’ technique or students’ ability and interest. However, lecturers did not evaluate students’ attitude. Thus, they did not know whether the students had positive or negative attitude in the class. An attitude refers to a set of emotions, beliefs, and behaviors toward a particular object, person, thing, or event. Attitude is important asset in learning English as a foreign language. Therefore, this research was conducted to describe how male and female students’ attitude toward learning English of the first year of English Education Study Program at Sekolah Tinggi Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Muhammadiyah Kotabumi–North Lampung, Academic Year 2016/2017. This research is categorized as descriptive research using mixed method research Furthermore, the sample of the research was the first year students of English Education Study Program at Sekolah Tinggi Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Muhammadiyah Kotabumi where the number of student was thirty-three students. Sample of the research was taken through purposive sampling technique. The instruments used by the researcher were questionnaire as main instrument, interview guide and observation sheet as supporting instruments. After collecting the data, then the data was analyzed by using average formula. It was found that female and male students had good knowledge and feelings toward learning English. Female students showed their positive behavior by involving the class activity. Therefore, the researcher concluded that male and female students of the first year of English Education Study Program at Sekolah Tinggi Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Muhammadiyah Kotabumi, academic year 2016/2017 had positive attitude toward learning English.
