Abstract

Listening comprehension is a process of receiving ideas and information deeply by the listener from the speaker. The ability of listening in English is a skill that is not easily mastered by all students who are not native speaker of that language. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to know the factors affecting students’ listening comprehension problem. In addition, this study is to know the most dominant factor that affecting students’ listening comprehension problem. The current study used descriptive approach which involved five students in the third semester of the 2023/2024 academic year English education study program at Muhammadiyah Kotabumi University. Researcher used interviews data. Data analysis was carried out in several stages, namely translating data, reducing data, displaying data, and drawing conclusion. The factors are listening materials, the linguistic features, the speakers from the listening material, the listener, the physical setting, and the concentration of the listener. The findings showed that all respondents affected by physical setting factor, two students affected by listening material. On the other hand, one student affected by concentration factor, and four students affected by linguistic features and the speaker. From the results of this research, it can be concluded that physical setting factor is most affected students listening comprehension problem.
