Abstract
This research aimed to analyze and explain the realization of communication strategy employed by extrovert and introvert students in conversation. The research subject was the second semester students of English Education Study Program at University of Muhammadiyah Kotabumi. This is a qualitative descriptive research. The researcher used MBTI questionnaire to determine student’s personality. To collect the data, the researcher recorded the students’ conversation and transcribes it in the written form, then observed the transcription by using observation checklist. After that, the researcher analyzed the communication strategy that employed by extrovert and introvert students in their conversation. The result revealed that introvert students employed more communication strategy than extrovert. The introvert students employed 9 types of communication strategy (message abandonment, circumulation, approximation, use non linguistic means, literal translation, code switching, appeal for help, time gaining and word coinage) while extrovert students employed 8 communication strategy (message abandonment, circumulation, approximation, use non linguistic means, literal translation, code switching, appeal for help, and time gaining). The frequencies of the using of communication strategy was dominated by introvert students especially in the using of message abandonment, literal translation, code switching, and time gaining. While the extrovert students was dominated in the using of circumulation, approximation, use non linguistic means and appeal for help.
