Abstract
The SLANT strategy is a learning strategy that can make students to be active and
participate in discussions in order to establish good social relations with other
people. Speaking is one of the language skills that students must master. For
example, in the 2013 curriculum it is stated that English is included in local
content, so enabling students to communicate in English is very influential. This is
for possible students to speak a foreign language .Based on the results of
observation carried out at Kemala Bhayangkari High School for class X students
on March 26 , 2022 , there were 18 students who got low scores. One of the
factors causing students' low scores is that students have inadequate vocabulary
mastery. Students found this difficulty in pronouncing sentences well. This
research aims to improve the high speaking performance of school students,
especially tenth graders, by using Sit Up Lean Forward, Active Your Thinking,
Name key Information, and Track the Talker Strategy (SLANT). However, in fact,
many students lack vocabulary, have difficulty in pronouncing sentences well,
have problems exploring their thoughts, and have inadequate speaking skills. This
research is included in quantitative research or experimental design. The
population of this study was tenth grade students at Kemala Bhayangkari High
School for the 2022/2023 academic year. The researcher chose X IPA 2 as the
experimental class and X IPA 3 as the control class. Researcher used test
techniques to collect data. Researcher used the t-test to analyze based on pre-test
calculations and post-test results, , it is known that tₒbserved > ttable was 2,46>1.708.
It means H₀ is rejected and there is a significant influence of using SLANT
strategy toward students speaking performance in Tenth Grade at SMA Kemala
Bhayangkari Academic Year 2022/2023.
