Abstract
Translation is one of important components that must be mastered by student in English learning. To translate well, the students must understand the meaning of each words what they translates. There is important thing in translation process, namely grammatical, but students find difficulties to translate appropriately. Based on the problem above, this research is qualitative descriptive research. The purpose of the research to describe the kinds of grammatical errors in narrative text produced by the second year students of SMA Hang Tuah. In this research, the data collected by using document taken from 34 students of XI IPS 3. In this research, the writer used documentation the data card as an instrument. Based on theory, there are four kinds of errors made by students they are: omission, addition, misformation and misordering. It was found that the total number of error made by the students was 681 errors. It also was found that students did 179 omission errors which consisted of omission of noun, verb, article, adjective, subject, auxiliary verbs, preposition, adverb, pronoun, conjunction. The researcher also found that the students did 167 addition errors which consisted of addition of article, noun, tobe, subject, verb, modal, pronoun, adverb, adjective, preposition, clitic. Besides, the result of data analysis showed that the students did 380 misformation errors which consisted of misformation of adjective, pronoun, article, adverb, noun, verb, tobe, modal, preposition, conjunction, clitic. And the last there were 27 misordering errors which consisted of misordering of verb, misplacement word.
