Abstract

Speaking is a productive activity because it involves using speech and producing words to express something meaningful. In speaking, there are five important components that must be considered and understood, including accuracy, pronunciation, grammar, fluency and vocabulary. To be able to master the components of speaking, speaking leaning strategies are needed to make it easier to master speaking skills. Speaking learning strategy is a method taken by language learners to solve communication problems when learning to speak English. Speaking learning strategies have two types, namely direct speaking learning strategies which consist of memory strategies, cognitive strategies and compensatory strategies, while indirect speaking learning strategies consist of metacognitive strategies, affective strategies and social strategies. The use of speaking learning strategies is widely used by language learners, including language learners who have introverted personalities. Introverted personalities usually tend to prefer doing things themselves, focusing more on their own thoughts. This is what made researcher interested so they made it the title of the research to find out the speaking learning strategies used by introverted students. This research uses qualitative research methods by taking five introverted students of the fourth semester from the English education study program based on the results of the MBTI test. Researcher used interviews and questionnaires as data collection techniques. Data analysis is carried out in several stages, namely reducing data, displaying data and drawing conclusions. The research results showed that introverted students used four speaking strategies, namely memory strategies, cognitive strategies, compensatory strategies and metacognitive strategies, while the other two strategies, namely affective strategies and social strategies, were not used by introverted students. The research results also show that cognitive strategies and compensatory strategies are the strategies most frequently used by introverted students in the 4th semester of the English language education study program.
