Abstract

Verbal interactions is like a tool applied by both teacher and students to communicate verbally during teachings and learning process, This, it is very important that both teacher and students produce it effectively to make an effective communication. Verbal interaction is interaction that uses words, both spoken and written in a classroom interaction setting. The aim of this research are firstly, to identify the verbal interaction between teacher and students in the classroom at the twelfth graders of SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Kotabumi in the academic year 2022/2023, secondly, to know what the categories of verbal interaction occurred in the classroom, thirdly, to know what dominant verbal interaction occurred in the classroom This research used qualitative research method in analysis verbal interaction between teacher and students in the classroom. The researcher chose the twelfth graders which consisted of 22 students as subject in this research. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation and documentation. Flanders‟ Interaction Analysis Category System was used to identify and analyze teacher and students talk in verbal interaction in the classroom. From the result of data, it is found that, the categories of verbal interaction that occur in the classroom is firstly indirect teacher there are accepts feeling, praise or encourage, asks questions, lecturers. secondly direct teacher talk consisted of gives direction, criticizes or justifies authority. In student talk there are, student talk- response and student initiation. Then, the teacher was dominant in verbal interaction in the classroom. The percentage of the teacher talk was 64.13%, then, the students talk was 35.87%.
