Abstract

Student reading comprehension can be developed through various techniques. The same technique might be better to be applied in reading ability. the problems are often found in the process of learning that some students had difficulty in learning English especially in reading skill so that their reading comprehension is low. Referring to these problems, this research is aimed reveal whether there is influence of CTL toward reading comprehension at the eighth grade of Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri 10 Kotabumi academic year 2018/2019. This research is a quasi experimental design with non equivalent control group design. The population is the eighth grade student of SMPN 10 Kotabumi academic year
2018/2019 consisting of 115. The sample is VIII B which consist of 28 students and VIII D which consists of 28 students. All the sample is taken purposively; VIII B as experiment class and VIII D as control class. In this research, firstly the data is collected by reading test, and then the data is analyzed by using independent t-test. The result of the hypothesis test showed that tobserved is 4.2801 and ttable is 2.0049. From the result, it can be seen that tobserved was greater than ttable or 4.2801 > 2.0049. As the result of the analysis, Ha is accepted while H0 is rejected. In conclusion, there is significant influence of contextual teaching and learning (CTL) method toward students reading comprehension at eight grade of Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri 10 Kotabumi academic year 2018/2019.
