This research was conducted to determine students problems in reading
comprehension. The first objective of this research was to describe the students'
problems in reading comprehension at the seventh semester of english education
study program in Muhammadiyah Kotabumi University academic year 2023/2024
and the second objective was to describe the dominant problem in reading
comprehension at the seventh semester of English education study program in
Muhammadiyah Kotabumi University academic year 2023/2024. In this research,
researcher used qualitative descriptive as a research method. Data collection in
this research was interview, aspects used were teacher's willingness to lecture on
reading materials, failure to adjust reading strategies for different purposes,
problem in perceiving the structure of an argument as they read, problem seeing
themselves in conservation with the author, and problem with vocabulary and
syntax which consist of six questions. The researcher did steps to analyze the data,
namely data reduction, data display and conclusion of drawing/verification. From
the analysis researcher found the problems that students experienced, were 21
students who experienced problems with teacher's willingness to lecture on
reading materials, 19 students who experienced problems with failure to adjust
reading strategies for different purposes, 21 students who experienced problems
with problem in perceiving the structure of an argument as they read, 21 students
who experienced problems with problem seeing themselves in conservation with
the author, and 21 students who experienced problems with problem with
vocabulary and syntax but the more dominant ones was problem with vocabulary
and syntax.
