Abstract

The problem found in this research that in writing analytical exposition text students still find difficulties and had low score. High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) is some types of thinking require greater cognitive processing that the researcher assumes to be correlated with students writing ability in analytical exposition text. The objective of the research is to find out whether there is correlation between students’ High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) and writing ability in analytical exposition text at the eleventh grade of SMA Kemala Bhayangkari Academic Year 2018/2019. The population of this research is the eleventh grade students of SMA Kemala Bhayangkari which is consists of 153 students. The sample of this research is 38 students taken by using Proportional Random Sampling Technique. The instrument used in this research is questionnaire and writing test. The result of hypothesis test shows that coefficient of r_xy = 0.907. This value is greater than the rtable which is 0.320. It can be seen in appendix 17. It means that the correlation between two variables is significant. From the result of significant test, it was found that tobserved = 12.959, this value is greater than ttable which is 1.6892, it means that H0 is rejected, and Ha is accepted. So, it can be concluded that there is significant correlation between students’ High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) and writing ability in analytical exposition text at the eleventh grade of SMA Kemala Bhayangkari Academic Year 2018/2019.
