Abstract
Self-esteem is an important factor for student’s writing ability. The purpose of this research is to find out a significant correlation between students’ self-esteem and their writing ability in narrative text at the twelfth grade students of SMAN 2 Negeri Agung academic year 2021/2022. The kind of this research is quantitative research and used a correlational research design. This research consist of two variables that is independent variable (X) which is students’ self-esteem and dependent variable (Y) which is writing ability. The population in this study were 4 classes in the twelfth grade students of SMAN 2 Negeri Agung. The total population were 122 students. Then, the sample in this research were 30 students. The researcher used a proportional random sampling technique to determine the sample in this research. Data collecting techniques were questionnaire and writing test. After data collected, data were analyzed by Pearson Product Moment formula to determine the correlation between two variables and t-test was used to determine the significance of correlation between two variables. The result of analysis showed rxy (0,946) is greater than rtable (0.361) which indicated that (H0) was rejected and (Ha) was accepted. Then, tobserve ( 15.473) is greater than ttable (1.697). It can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between students’ self esteem and their writing ability in narrative text at twelfth grade students of SMAN 2 Negeri Agung in academic year 2021/2022
