Abstract

Vocabulary is an important aspect in English learning procces of English. Students’ difficulties in comprehending a text is influenced by their lack of vocabulary. Considering the importance of vocabulary, it is important to find out what variables that right correlate with the mastery of vocabulary. Therefore, this research is conducted to investigate whether or not reading interest correlate with students vocabulary mastery. The design of this research is a descriptive quantitatif research. The number of population in this research was 68 students. The reseacher used simple random sampling technique to take the sample of the research. The number of sample was 30 students. The instrument used to collected the data was multiple choice test for students’ vocabulary mastery and quessionaire of students’ reading interest. After the data was collected, the data was analyzed by using sperman rank correlation and Zh – test formula for significant level used in this research is 5% (0.05,30). Based on the analysis, it was found count (0.831) > table (0.364), and Zcount (4.47) > Ztable (1.96), so, Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. In conclusion, there is significant correlation between students’ reading interest and vocabulary retention at the Eleventh Grade of MA Al- Islamiyah Kotabumi North Lampung Academic Year 2017/2018.
