Abstract
Speaking is one of skill in English that must be mastered by the students because
speaking ability directly have relation with all of the students’ learning process at school.
The success of the students in following learning process will be determined by the
mastery of speaking ability. Ideally, the students are hoped to master speaking English
very well. By mastering speaking English, the students will be easy to express the ideas
cleverly appropriate with the material and situation when they speak. Furthermore, the
students who have good speaking ability should have not been difficult to do activity in
learning such as communication with teacher, discussion with friends, and presentation.
However, the fact that researcher found that the teacher explained that when the teacher
asked the students to respond by using English the students looks confused to answer and
learning activity the students have less motivation. The aim for this research is to find out
the influence of using storytelling toward students’ speaking ability of the tenth graders in
SMKN 1 Abung Selatan academic year 2023/2024. This research applied used quasi
experimental design. Population in this research is tenth grade students of SMKN 1
Abung consisting of 122 students. Sampling technique used purposive sampling and the
sample taken class AKP 2 become the control class, class AKP 1 become the
experimental class. Instrument in this research used speaking test to pre-test and post-test.
Based on data analysis and t-test was found that of tobserved > ttable that was 4.744 > 2.024.
So H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. It can be concluded that, there is significant
influence of significant influence of using story telling toward students’ speaking ability
of the tenth graders in SMKN 1 Abung Selatan academic year 2023/2024.
