Abstract

Motivation is an important thing to exist within a student especially the motivation in learning, because the motivation is good to encourage for students to have spirit and desire to study hard so that can drive a student to be reached the achievements especially in learning English. This research is categorized as a qualitative research that has the purpose to find out the factors influencing students‟ motivation in learning English. In this research, the data will be taken from X TN (marketing) with the total of students 34 students, where the students in X TN become the object research because it has the highest level of motivation in learning compared with students‟ motivation in the other classes in the tenth grade in SMKN 1 Kotabumi North Lampung. In this research, the researcher used questionnaire and observation sheet as instrument to collecting the data. Based on the theory from Siregar and Nara,there are two factors influencing students motivation in learning English that are extrinsic and intrinsic factors. Each factor has some aspects, extrinsic factor is related to students‟ environment conditions, the dynamic element, the teacher effort. Meanwhile, intrinsic factor is related to ideals and students‟ aspiration, students‟ ability and students‟ condition. By seeing the result of research it can be concluded that there are two factors like extrinsic and intrinsic factors that influencing students‟ motivation in learning English. Both of the factors consist of three aspects. But, from all of aspects in intrinsic and extrinsic, there are three aspects that are very strong to show that students‟ motivation in learning English, there are the dynamic element, the teacher effort, and ideals students‟ aspiration.
